Ivory Coast boss Soualiho Haidara vows to make things difficult for Egypt in the U-23 AFCON final

Les Éléphants beat Ghana 3-2 on penalties in a thrilling encounter on Tuesday to qualify for the U-23 AFCON final.

On the other hand, Egypt managed to beat South Africa 3-0 in the semi-final to earn a spot in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo next summer.

Speaking ahead of the final on Friday, Ivory Coast boss Soualiho Haidara praised Egypt, but warns the Pharaohs that their clash on Friday will be a tough one.

“We know where Egypt’s strengths lie on the pitch whether it’s their attack or defense,” Haidara said in a press conference. “We also know that they won all their games played in the tournament.

“Despite their strengths, they should also beware of us because we will not make it easy for Egypt on Friday

“My goal is to follow the footsteps of my father and brother, and ultimately win the tournament,” he added.

It’s worth noting that the last time both sides met in the U-23 AFCON was in 2008, where Ivory Coast beat Egypt 4-2 in the qualifiers for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
