Big blow for ZAMALEK as duo tested positive for coronavirus ahead of Cairo derby clash with Al Ahly

Zamalek duo Tarek Hamed and Mahmoud Alaa have test positive for COVID-19 just a week before the Cairo Derby against Al Ahly.

The Whites will host Al Ahly in the third round of the Egyptian Premier League on Monday, December 28.

The game comes one month after the historic CAF Champions League final, which Al Ahly won 2-1, thanks to Mohamed Magdy Afsha’s later winner.

Jaime Pacheco’s men will look to avenge the defeat, however, they will probably have to do it without two of their key players in Tarek Hamed and Mahmoud Alaa.

It has been confirmed that the duo contracted the COVID-19 virus and tested positive on Tuesday.

Tarek Hamed is arguably Zamalek’s most important player since joining the Whites in September 2014 from Smouha, making over 225 appearances for the club, while scoring five goals.

The 32-year-old played the full 90 minutes of Zamalek’s opening two league games this season alongside centre-back Mahmoud Alaa.

Alaa has been at Zamalek since August 2017, joining from Wadi Degla and since then played over 125 games for the club, scoring 37 goals, including two against Al Ahly.

Meanwhile, the Reds have announced that three of their players had tested positive for the virus just a couple of days ago, namely Amr El-Sulya, Mohamed Magdy Afsha, and Rami Rabia.
