‘Asante Kotoko will sign all the big players in the transfer window’- revealed by new Board member Kwadwo Boateng Genfi
Newly appointed Board member Kwadwo Boateng Genfi has revealed Asante Kotoko will be signing big-name players whenever the transfer window in Ghana is opened.
Kotoko are known for bringing in top players from the African continent, having former Burkina Faso first choice shot-stopper Soulama Abdulai, Ivorian striker Ahmed Toure, Cameroonian midfielder Mbola Sanji and Songne Yacouba crossed the seas to serve Kotoko in the last two-half decades.
In Ghana, almost all the quality players both in the past and in recent times have played for the Ghana Premier League outfits.
Despite this, the last couple of years especially from 2010 to date has been a sort of troubles and set-backs in transferring quality players to Kotoko.
Since, 2010 when Berekum Chelsea and Aduana Stars became a major in the Ghana Premier League, they have matched Kotoko in securing all the top talents in Ghana.
Where big names, former Esperance de Tunis forward Emmanuel Clottey, Ex TP Mazembe play-makers Gladson Awako and Solomon Asante and a host of top players swerved Kotoko for a three of Berekum Chelsea, Aduana Stars and Medeama Sporting Club in previous transfers.
This may be due to lack of purchasing power and understanding of the latest dynamics in the transfer window, and Kotoko are poised to have all these back and intact again to be able to land all the big name players in Ghana as revealed by new Board member Kwadwo Boateng Genfi.
Mr. Genfi revealed this Kotoko’s new plan when discussing the factors that can make a team (specifically to his team) Kotoko a good one during an interview with Kumasi based Radio Station Oyerepa FM.
“We need to poach the best players in Ghana, beef up the team. For a football team to be good is all about the players, we need to get all the best players in Ghana.” Genfi told Oyerepa FM.
“Player motivation will be key, give a player better welfare and you will get the best out of the player. Taking cue from how Herbert Mensah handled welfare of the players those times, players welfare is very important to me”.
The new Board member have already targeted lifting the Ghana Premier League for Kotoko for the first time in six years and may be chasing to win the first CAF Champions League for the Porcupine Warriors since 1983.
And signing of quality players in Ghana and across Africa can be key to his success in these two prestigious competitions. They are reportedly starting to have eyes on Inter Allies forward Victorien Adebayor although the Niger International look likely to leave for Europe.
