Match Report: Borussia Dortmund 0-1 Bayern Munich, as it happened

Borussia Dortmund welcomed Bayern Munich to a point-determinant Bundesliga game in the Bundesliga at Signal Iduna Park when prior to today’s mouthwatering game points deference between the first two on the log was only four as the Bavarians led with 61 points.

Bayern beat Dortmund to complete a double victory over their rivals having won the first leg 4-0 at Allianz Arena November last year. Thanks to Robert Lewandowski double and a goal from Serge Gnabry and Mats Hummels completed the four-goal thumbing of Dortmund.

In today’s clash, Łukasz Piszczek cleared Serge Gnabry ball from the line to deny Bayern a 20th minute lead having appeared the better side of the two in opening minutes of the game.

Stoppage time strike from Joshua Kimmich’s (43rd) ensured Bayern ended the first half with a 1-0 lead. Kimmich from just outside the penalty box nicely chipped the ball over behind Dortmund’s shot-stopper Roman Bürki who seemed helpless from his position as the ball entered the net.

Robert Lewandowski had hit the ground running for the Bavarians scoring in every game since the return of the Bundesliga.

But polish forward was kept at bay throughout the game by Dortmund defence while at the receiving end, supplies to Erling Haaland was completely cut off seeing the Dortmund striker quite in the first half before he was substituted in the second half.

The visitors had started the second half as yet the dominant side but Dortmund came into the game strongly after Bavarians’ spell.

Haaland should have drew level pegging for his side but the Norwegian just shot wide of the post after been put through on goal by Thorgan Hazard.

Lucien Favre called Jadon Sancho, Thomas Delaney, Giovanni Reyna and Gotze into action having replaced Julian Brandt, Emre Can, Haaland and Piszczek Eight minutes later respectively as the Dortmund coach search for the equalizer.

Kingsley Coman, Jerome Boateng and Gnabry made way for Ivan Perisic, Lucas Hernandez and Javier Martinez for Bayern at the receiving end.

With both teams failing to find back of the net after 90 minutes, Bayern picked their third straight victory after return of the Bundesliga and extend the lead on the table to seven points in today’s 1-0 victory over Dortmund.
