Omar Marmoush set to leave VFL Wolfsburg in January as Borussia Dortmund interested in Egyptian International

VFL Wolfsburg are reportedly contemplating the idea of selling Omar Marmoush after talks over a new contract stalled, with Borussia Dortmund emerging as potential suitors.

The Egypt international had joined Wolfsburg in 2017 from Wadi Degla, but spent the majority of his spell at the reserve team or on loan spells at FC St. Pauli and VfB Stuttgart.

Despite Omar verbally committing his future with Wolfsburg back in August, sporting director Jörg Schmadtke revealed that the player had turned down talks over a new contract.

Marmoush’s contract expires at the end of the season, which could lead Wolfsburg to consider selling him in order to recoup some money rather than losing him for free in the summer.

And that’s according to the local news outlet, Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, which also quoted Jörg Schmadtke saying that the two camps “are considering the right decision for both the winter and summer.”

Moreover, the report regarded both Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach as potential suitors for the Egypt international.

Dortmund is no stranger to having Egyptians in their squad, with Mohamed Zidan representing the club in 73 games, scoring 15 goals and helping them to back-to-back Bundesliga titles as well as the domestic double in 2012.

This season, Marmoush has scored three times for Wolfsburg in 17 games as the club currently sit seventh in the Bundesliga table just two points behind sixth-placed Dortmund.
