Angola edge out South Africa 6-1 aggregate in CHAN qualifiers as Bafana Bafana fail for Algeria finals

Bafana Bafana have failed to qualify for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) after a 6-1 aggregate loss to Angola.

Helman Mkhalele’s charges came into the side with a big job on their hands after suffering a 2-0 defeat last weekend.

The starting line-up received a big boost of players this week, with the likes of Mothobi Mvala, Mosa Lebusa, Thabiso Kutumela and Monnapule Saleng being included in the line-up.

Saleng’s inclusion paid off early on as the Orlando Pirates winger sent a fine delivery into the box for Prince Nxumalo to head home for their first goal in the tie.

Bafana had a couple more chances as the first half went on to go level on aggregate, with Nxumalo squandering two openings.

The hosts were made to pay for those missed opportunities, Angola were gifted the equaliser when Lebusa deflected the ball into his own net while trying to clear.

Mkhalele opted for a double change just before the hour mark as Kutumela and Mvala made way for Siphesihle Ndlovu and Sabelo Radebe.

However, the Angolans managed to take the lead in the 62nd minute when Dievi Vieira fired past Reyaad Pieterse, before Paciencia made it 3-1 on the day with a curling effort in the 72nd minute.

Daniel Kilola got the fourth goal for Palancas Negras with 16 minutes left on the clock, which was his second goal of the tie after scoring in the first leg.
