Ex-Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba wants NFF to take responsibility for World Cup miss

Former Nigeria forward, Victor Ikpeba wants the NFF to stop deflecting their World Cup miss to Augustine Eguaveon.

The former Nigeria captain has been blamed for the Super Eagles failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup after Ghana urged them to the World Cup ticket.

However, Ikpeba, who was CAF’s African Player of the Year in 1997, believes NFF made a mistake in sacking former coach Gernot Rohr.

“Eguavoen was not in support of the decision to sack Rohr,” he told Super Sports.

“The NFF should take responsibility of Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup and not Eguavoen.”

Gernot Rohr was sacked few days to the start of the Africa Cup of Nations, allowing Eguaveon to take over as coach.

He led the team to a 100% group stage success but got eliminated at the round of 16.

The Black Stars qualified ahead of the Super Eagles via the away goal rule after Thomas Partey netted in Abuja.

The second leg ended in a 1-1 draw after a goalless stalemate in Kumasi.
