Nicolas Ngamaleu nets in Young Boys 2-1 victory over Manchester United as Meschak Elia provides assist
Dr Congo forward Meschak Elia provided assists for Cameroonian International Nicolas Ngamalu to score in Young Boy’s 2-1 victory on Tuesday night. The two Africans worked together to score Young Boy’s first goal that cancelled out Cristiano Ronaldo’s first Champions League goal since returning to Manchester United from Juve.
Ngamaleu and Elia were both named in Young Boys fight-back XI over the Manchester heavyweight as the group stages of the UEFA Champions League got underway yesterday.
The Swiss side welcomed 2008 European champions to the Stade Suisse but went down after just 13 minutes into the game. Cristiano Ronaldo gave the Premier League outfit the lead after latching on to Bruno Fernandes out-foot pass across the back line.
That strike put a heavy workload on Young Boys who were chasing a victory over Manchester United first time in three Champions League outings. All the previous two games had been won by the Red Devils.
While that was to be followed but further goals, Young Boys frustrated Manchester United leading to reduced squad to 10-man after Wan-Bissaka was sent off.
Elia and Ngamaleu rose to the occasion shining throughout both halves, creating problems for the United back line before the later finally got his name on the score sheet in the second half.
Ngamaleu, who played on wide left was named in a three men of Fassnacht, Aebischer while Dr Congo International Elia led as the lone striker. Elia, 24, joined Young Boys from African Champions League giants TP Mazembe in February 2020.
Elia nearly put Young Boys ahead under 3’ minutes after bullying Fred to the ball in United’s half, the Congolese International drove forward to launch a low short that beat David de Gea but failed enter the net missing the posts by inches.
Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes combined beautifully to give United the lead at Bern but Aaron Wan-Bissaka was sent off on 35 minutes for a foul on Christopher Martins Pereira.
Ngamaleu got his turn of chances and converted one of them on 66’ minute after connecting a flick on from Elia’s right flank cross as the two Africans combined to send Young Boys on level.
Jordan Sibacheau hit the winner in the 95th minute after a wrongful backpass from Jesse Lingard.
