Ehab Galal sacked as Egypt manager after three games

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has officially dismissed Ehab Galal from his position as national team head coach.

After failing to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar back in March, the EFA sacked Portuguese head coach Carlos Queiroz.

Just days after his departure, Ehab Galal was announced as his successor and his first games in charge came in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The appointment decision was controversial at the time, with many believing that a big-name foreign coach would be more fitting for the job.

Galal’s first game with the national team was a late scrappy home win against Guinea in the opening game of the AFCON qualifiers, thanks to Mostafa Mohamed’s late winner.

A few days later, the Pharaohs fell to a humiliating 2-0 defeat to Ethiopia in Malawi, which was enough for many to push for the dismissal of Galal.

Galal still took charge of the seven-time African champions in a friendly against South Korea in Seoul, and yet again the Egyptians suffered another defeat, but this time with the result of 4-1.

The EFA held a meeting on Thursday afternoon and decided enough is enough, announcing the sacking of Ehab Galal after just three games in charge.

“We will hire a foreign manager with a reputable CV,” EFA board member Hazem Emam said on Thursday.

“We were offered several huge resumes. The Egyptian national team is very big.

“We will also hire a foreign technical director for the Olympic national team,” Emam said.
