Mohamed Salah closes in on ridiculous Liverpool record to overtake Henry and Aguero
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah scored his 17th goal of the season as Jurgen Klopp’s side earned a 2-0 win over Porto in the Champions League.
Mohamed Salah is closing on breaking yet another record after his latest Liverpool goal against Porto.
The Egyptian was on target for Jurgen Klopp’s side in Wednesday night’s 2-0 Champions League win versus the Portuguese side, which maintained the Reds’ 100% winning record in Group B.
Salah’s second-half strike was a trademark finish, having wrong-footed Uribe before slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.
The 29-year-old has now moved on to 17 goals for the season in all competitions after 17 matches played and is within touching distance of rewriting the history books once again.
Having already become the leading African scorer in Premier League history this campaign, the Liverpool forward is now close to becoming the player with the most Champions League goals for one English club (qualifying round goals do not count).
Salah has scored 31 times in Europe in 48 games for the Reds, a record only better by four individuals.
Thierry Henry is just ahead of the Egyptian with 35 goals in 77 appearances, along with Ruud van Nistelrooy (35 goals, 43 appearances), Didier Drogba (36 goals, 74 appearances) and Sergio Aguero (36 goals, 64 appearances).
Requiring only six further strikes to lead the way, this is something Salah could possibly achieve during the current campaign.
In addition to this, the former Roma winger also has a record of Drogba’s in his sights.
The retired Ivorian remains the leading African scorer in Champions League history with 44 goals to his name, though Salah is just 11 strikes away from equalling this tally.
