Egypt crushed out of African Nations Volleyball Championship after semifinals defeat to Tunisia
Egypt volleyball national team were knocked out of the 2021 African Nations Volleyball Championship after losing 3-1 to Tunisia.
The 2021 Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship is currently taking place in Rwanda, from the seventh to the 14th of September.
The Pharaohs were placed in Group D, alongside Morocco, Kenya, and Tanzania. And Egypt successfully topped the group with two wins and one loss to qualify to the quarter-finals.
In the quarter-finals, Egypt clashed with Uganda who came second in Group A, and the Egyptians claimed a 3-1 win to find themselves face to face with title-holders Tunisia in the semi-finals.
Tunisia took the lead as they won the first set of the game 25-19, but Egypt quickly recovered to tie 1-1 after winning the second set 25-16.
The Tunisians then came back to win two consecutive sets 25-14, and 25-21 to end the Egyptians’ coronation dream.
After losing in the semi-finals, the Egyptians missed their chance to land a spot in the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in Russia next year, while Tunisia and Cameroon earned their qualification card by reaching the continental championship final.
However, the 12 best-ranked nations that couldn’t directly qualify will be able to participate in the World Championship, Egypt are placed 21st in the world ranking at the moment.
