Zamalek Basketball first to participate in FIBA Intercontinental Cup after discovering opponentsin 2022 edition

Egyptian Super League and African champions, Zamalek, have discovered their opponents for the 2022 FIBA Intercontinental Cup.

The FIBA Intercontinental Cup or FIBA Club World Cup is an annual tournament that gathers the best clubs from each geographical zone.

However, the NBA refuse to send their league champions and opt to instead send the NBA G-League champions, North America’s secondary club competition.

Additionally, the EuroLeague champions are also not allowed to participate in the tournament and therefore the Basketball Champions League champions are sent instead.

As the champions of the inaugural Basketball Africa League (BAL) tournament, organized by the NBA and FIBA, Zamalek have booked their place in the Intercontinental Cup.

The Egyptian Super League champions will become the first-ever African team to represent the continent in this prestigious event.

The White Knights will be joined by last edition’s champions CD San Pablo Burgos of Spain, NBA G-League champions, and Orlando Magic affiliate club Lakeland Magic and Brazil’s Flamengo.

The draw took place on Saturday morning in Cairo and saw Zamalek drawj against CD San Pablo Burgos in the first semi-final. Meanwhile, the other semi-final pitted Flamengo against Lakeland Magic.

The semi-finals will be played on 11 February, while the final and the third-place decider will take place on the 13th.
