BASKETBALL: Egypt announce squad for FIBA World Cup qualifiers

Egypt national basketball team head coach, Roy Rana, announced his 14-man squad set to participate in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

The 2023 FIBA World Cup is set to take place in August 2023 in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines.

The first round of the African qualifiers includes 16 teams who were divided into four groups of four teams. The top three teams of each group then qualify to the final round, where the 12 teams are divided into two groups and play other teams from the other groups twice.

Group A will be paired with Group C and Group B with Group D, then the top two teams of each group, along with the best third placed team, reach the World Cup finals.

Egypt were drawn in Group D in the first round of the FIBA World Cup qualifiers alongside Kenya, Senegal and DR Congo. All of their initial three games will be played between February 25 and 27 against Senegal, Kenya and DR Congo respectively in Dakar.

As the Pharaohs are set to travel to Senegal, the newly-appointed Roy Rana announced his squad which includes 14 players. The team, however, doesn’t include American basketball player Dewarick Spencer, who was set to be naturalized and represent the Pharaohs.
