Exclusive: Morocco will field two Golf teams at the World Amateur Team Championships in France

Morocco will field two teams in the World Amateur Team Championships – France 2022” which will take place in Paris, on the Golf National and Saint-Nom-La-Bretèche courses, from August 24 to September 3, announced the Royal Moroccan Federation. of Golf (FRMG).

“Conducted by the IGF (International Golf Federation) and hosted during this edition by the French Golf Federation, this biennial event will take place as usual in two stages. The first week, the women’s elite of world amateur golf compete in the Espirito Santo Trophy, the title of which is defended by the United States. In the second week, their male counterparts play the Eisenhower Trophy, which Denmark won in 2018,” explained the FRMG in a press release, adding that this event could not take place in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. .

“The regular presence of players from the Federal Elite Pole in events of this scale reinforces the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation, chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, in the effort provided to supervise high-level players with the aim of to make them champions able to compete with the elite of world golf, “said the press release.

For its 29th edition (from August 24 to 27) the Espirito Santo Trophy will have no less than 56 registered nations, including Morocco, which will be the only Arab nation represented, notes the press release, specifying that the women’s national team will be composed of Sofia Cherif Essakali, winner last week of an AJGA tournament (the first junior circuit in the United States), Rim Imni, reigning Moroccan champion, and Malak Bouraeda, author of a historic qualification for the US Women’s Open in May last.

“Our young players discover with pleasure the courses of the world championship, it is a young and motivated team which discovers the competition at this level. On the men’s side, 71 nations will take part in the 32nd edition of the Einsenhower Trophy, from August 31 to September 3. “Our representatives will be keen to fly the colors of the national flag high during this prestigious amateur tournament, whose prize list is loaded with legendary names such as Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods”, indicates the same source.
