GJA President faces more legal tussle as court order for substituted service
An Accra High court has issued an order for substituted service against Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour and three others.
This follows efforts to serve them the writ of summons in an interlocutory injunction brought against him by a member of the GJA, Justice Lee Adoboe.
The court giving the order indicated the defendants including the former president of the GJA, Affail Monney, are to be served by substituted service the writ of summons, the statement of claim and the motion on notice for the interlocutory injunction.
These have been boldly posted at the Press Centre and the Notice Board of the High Court (general jurisdiction).
The GJA a month ago ignored a court process injuncting the newly-elected President from being sworn in.
That notwithstanding, Albert Dwumfuor was sworn in at a ceremony at the Accra International Conference Center, hence this order for substituted service by the applicant, Mr. Justice Lee Adoboe.
Earlier suit
In the suit, Justice Lee Adoboe contended that the bribery allegations levelled against Mr. Dwumfuor should have been investigated before the elections were held.
Justice Lee Adoboe had said in an interview that he was praying the court to declare the election of Albert Dwumfuor as GJA President null and void.
“A declaration that the offer of cash, favors and/or incentives by the 3rd Defendant and Samuel Amoh Tobin to members of the 1st Defendant Association in the Western region, constitutes an election malpractice under Article 52 of the GJA Constitution”, part of the applicant’s claims against the defendant reads.
The injunction was served to the officials of the GJA on Wednesday, a day before the swearing-in of the newly elected executives.
