Ghana youth alerted on huge LGBTQ+ advice after Tobinco Group of Companies chairman issues stance on largely talked about controversial topic

The Ghanaian youth have been advised on one of the mostly talked about moral topics in recent times in Ghana. The attempt to infiltrate the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBTQ+) concept in the West African country has come along with opposing views with non-acceptability becoming the most widely cherished side of the controversial issue in Ghana.

Most politicians, economist, businessmen, vibrant citizens and priests have taken stance on the LGBTQ+ siding against with vast condemnation of the widely regarded Western Civilization.

Of all these condemnations, the government has been the focal point not to issue the green light for the operation of the LGBTQ+ in Ghanaian’s round life. However, there appears evidence of delay on the part of government to officially declare his stance against the much talked about topic in recent times thought there are glimpses of hope for the future after Ghana’s parliament planned to pass anti-gay bill but when exactly will that be is another great concern.

With the government delaying in passing the bill, there are fears the LGBTQ+ practice have or may hit a sizeable proportion of the Ghanaian population with a specific consideration for the youth before the curbing approach is finally passed.

In recent times, the Ghanaian youth have been receiving streamline advises to refrain from what church people called ‘abominable act’ that in most views of such moral perspective ‘distorts procreation.’

In this regard, Nana Amo Tobbin, who is also a Church of Pentecost Elder, becomes the first renowned businessman to add his voice on the LGBTQ+ concept with its bill pending approval or denial of Ghana’s parliament.

The Church Elder has cautioned the youth against activities of the Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex.

“I applaud the Chairman for the Pentecost on their stance on the LGBTQ, I believe it’s a very bad practice which does not need to be tolerated and the youth should be watchful of that too,” the Tobinco boss added.

Anti-gay bill

According to the anti-gay bill, people of the same sex who engage in sexual intercourse are “liable on summary conviction to a fine of not less than seven hundred and fifty penalty units and not more than five thousand penalty units, or to a term of imprisonment of not less than three years and not more than five years or both.”

The anti-gay bill also proposes that a person who, by use of media, technological platform, technological account or any other means, produces, procures, markets, broadcasts, disseminates, publishes or distributes a material for purposes of promoting an activity prohibited under the Bill, or a person uses an electronic device, the Internet service, a film, or any other device capable of electronic storage or transmission to produce, procure, market, broadcast, disseminate, publishes or distribute a material for purposes of promoting an activity prohibited under the Bill, commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a term of imprisonment of not less than five years and not more than ten years

President’s view on LGBTQ bill

Since the LGBTQ concept has been heavily criticized by politicians, economists, businessmen, vibrant citizens and priests, there is continual pressure on Ghana President to facilitate the passage of the anti-gay bill.

The President has issued a view with Akufo-Addo saying he does not feel pressured by the ongoing LGBTQ perspectives/debate with respect to passing the Promotion Of Proper Human Sexual Rights And Ghanaian Family Values Bill, 2021’.

“I don’t feel pressured, we are talking about public opinion, we are talking about legitimate process that is being used.

“What I would hope for is that the debate itself will be civil and that we would recognize the need to be civil and that we would recognize the need to be tolerant of each other even when there are opposing views..,” Akufo Addo told the media.
