Opposition party NDC will seek the views of Ghanaians on National Cathedral

The Member of Parliament (MP) for North Tongu Constituency, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has disclosed that the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) will seek the views of Ghanaians on the National Project for the necessary action to be taken.

The Minority MP is responsible for the many revelations in the public domain concerning the National Cathedral Project.

It is through his posts on his Facebook page that it came to light that the government has allegedly unconstitutionally spent some GHS200 million on the project on the blind side of Parliament.

Speaking to TV3 on the New Day programme on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa disclosed that the NDC party plans to do a scientific survey on the National Cathedral Project to know the views of the citizenry.

“The National Democratic Congress, as our name implies, is a national party. We are democrats. We will go to the people and ask for their position. There will be a scientific way of hearing from the people and doing what pleases the people. Fortunately for our country, the majority are Christians, more than 70 per cent. We will go to them and ask them what should be our marching orders,” the North Tongu MP stressed.

According to Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, it is a shame a project being undertaken in the name of God has been characterised by lies and against the laws of the country.

“Remember that this pledge was not even in the NPP manifesto. The president has sprung this huge surprise on us and it has become such a major financial burden. What it has destroyed in its wake, all of these demolitions, now we are looking for loans and we are all over the place. What the NDC will do is to go back to the people for the people to decide on what is to be done.

“We are unravelling a lot of mysteries. It’s been a shame that a project [National cathedral] that is done in the name of the Holy Lord has been immersed in all these deception and blatant disregard of our laws,” Okudzeto Ablakwa added.

Although it was previously thought that the National Cathedral Project will be privately funded with the government contributing seed money, the secretariat of the National Cathedral has clarified that it is a public-private partnership instead.
