Teacher attacked, forced to kneel and beg a gang in student-revenge attack

A teacher at the Anyinasin Methodist JHS in the Eastern Region of Ghana has been forced to kneel and beg a gang in a revenge attack after the victim punished a student a day before.

The student who was punished on the count of misconduct keen on a revenge against the teach asking a gang from his hometown to attack the teacher the next day after his punishment.

In the attack, the teach was forced to kneel and beg the gang in front of his student but reportedly escaped harmful damages.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has temporarily suspended school activities in the Akyem Anyinasin Methodist Junior High School in Abuakwa North Municipality in the Eastern region.

The decision has been taken after some community gang attacked and forced a teacher to kneel and beg for punishing some students of the school.

From the information gathered, the students were disciplined by the teacher for alleged misconduct on Monday, July 24.

The students who were angered reported the male teacher to community members who allegedly attacked the teacher.

The victim was on his way home from work when the gang from the community pounced on him. They forced him to kneel to render an apology for disciplining the students.

The gang from the community per reports also threatened other teachers not to dare discipline students of the Akyem Anyinasin Methodist Junior High School anymore.

On Thursday, Miss Abena Gyamerah who is the Abuakwa North Municipal Director of Education visited the school after information about the incident reached her desk.

Following engagements with teachers and leaders of the community, she directed that the school be closed down temporarily.

Speaking to an Accra-based Starr News in an interview, Miss Abena Gyamerah said, “The students misbehaved and the teachers tried to correct them but they went to inform the town folks so it was the town folks who threatened the teachers. So I gave instruction that the school be closed down today so that we sit on the issue. It is still under investigation.”

Sources say it is likely the classes will resume next week.
