Wafa ace Augustine Boakye competes transfer to Wolfsberger AC after Austrian side announce move
Ghana Premier League star Augustine Boakye has completed a move to Wolfsberger AC after the Austrian side announced a four year deal on transfer deadline day.
The former Wafa man has been a star-to-watch-in-the-future since graduating from the club’s academy. This season, he raised the bar as far as performance is concerned battling Salifu Ibrahim for the Ghana Premier League best player award.
However, Boakye was beaten to the ultimate by the Heart of Oak highly rated midfielder. If failed to the domestic Golden ball, there was one thing no body tempted to take away from Augustine Boakye, that’s the top assist in the Ghanaian top flight after helping his teams 11 times to directly score goals.
The 20-year old attracted huge interest since the first round of the Ghana Premier League but Wafa could never let the midfielder leave for any prize.
Right after the end of the Ghanaian season, giants Asante Kotoko attempted with a move but failed to reach agreement with Boakye former parent club Wafa. The Ghana youth International scored 9 goals in 29 Ghana Premier League games.
Having Wolfsberger opened negotiations to sign the Ghanaian International in a couple of weeks ago, the 20-year old arrived in Australia last weekend to complete his medicals before been quarantined in his hotel.
“Shortly before the transfer deadline, the RZ Pellets WAC announced the commitment of Augustine Boakye from Ghana. The 20-year-old left-footer comes from the West African Football Academy (WAFA) and receives a contract in Lavanttal until 2025,” wrote the club on their official website.
“It still worked! Augustine Boakye is moving from WAFA to the Wolves in Lavanttal, where he will sign a contract until 2025.”
“The offensive all-rounder scored a total of 9 goals in 29 games for the WAFA last season. Augustine also shone with 11 assists, which earned him the title of best assists in the league.”
“The 1.78-meter-tall Ghanaian can hold both the outer lanes and the central positions on the offensive and should make the attack by the wolves even more unpredictable.”
“We are delighted that Augustine’s transfer has finally worked out. This gives us another option for our offensive. Now, of course, we want to integrate him into the club and the team as soon as possible,” said the manager of Wolfsberger Robin Dutt.
Wolfsberger has struggled to keep pace with start of the Australian Bundesliga after winning only two of their 6 opening games, placing 6th on the table.
Boakye’s signing is expected to cause turnaround in Wolfsberger’s season as they take on Scheiblingkirchen tomorrow evening.
Goal-scoring a been the major challenge of Robin Dutt’s side but with the creativity of their new Ghanaian signing, Wolfsberger could but only be expected to score a lot of goals in subsequent games.
