ZAMALEK close to breaking Al Ahly five year dominance of Egyptian Premier League after come back against Ceramica Cleopatra

ZAMALEK are edging closer to breaking Al Ahly 5-year dominance of the Egyptian Premier League after Patrice Carteron’s men come back from a goal down to beat Ceramica Cleopatra last Friday.

Ahly have been crowned champions of the Premier League for the last five seasons but their sixth season could suffer a setback with Zamalek putting up a competitive chase this term.

It has become a two horse race between the Cairo giants since the start of the season but Zamalek has led the table for past weeks now while Al Ahly were confident of a surpass.

However, Zamalek’s defeat of Ceramica Cleopatra on Friday evening gives a strong command on the Egyptian Premier League table with 76 points against Ahly’s 72.

With 4 points above Al Ahly ahead of 2 remaining games, Zamalek need a win to lift their first Premier League title since 2015.

Winger Ahmed ‘Zizo’ Sayed scored the winner for Zamalek against Ceramica Cleopatra 2-1 on Friday.

The White Knights came from a goal down from Ahmed Mohsen, 22, to win the game through Achraf Bencharki, 45, and Zizo in the 60th minute.

Zamalek controlled the game for most of the time but could not create enough chances to finish off the game.

Cleopatra defender Ahmed Mohsen broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute as Zamalek’s goalie Mohamed Abo Gabal failed to clear the ball only to fall in the path of Mohsen who shot from distance in an empty net.

Zamalek were back on the front foot and Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki scored the equaliser after collecting a rebound from the keeper who denied a shot from veteran full back Mohamed Abdel Shafy.

At the hour mark, the Whites were awarded a penalty after VAR check and Zizo converted the ball to give his side a precious win.

Zamalek will face El Entag El Harby on Tuesday and NBE club in their last game of the season on Friday
