Egypt announce 27-man squad for 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers as Mohamed Salah fate determined

Egypt national team head coach Hossam El Badry has announced a 27-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifications matches against Angola and Gabon.

The Pharaohs will be hosting Angola on Wednesday, the 1st of September at the start of the journey to Qatar 2022.

The Egyptian national team will then fly to Gabon for the second game in the group stage, which will be taking place on Sunday, the 5th of September.

Despite Premier League clubs’ refusal to let their players leave for national duty due to COVID-19 restrictions, El Badry’s squad included both Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) and Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal).

In the official statement that was posted on Egypt Football Association’s official Twitter, they clarified that Salah and Elneny were included as EFA are still trying to find a way to make it happen.

The Squad witnessed the return of national team veterans such as Abdallah El-Said and Mohamed Abdelshafy.

Several youth players also made the cut like Salah Mohsen, Akram Tawfik, Ahmed Fetouh, and Ramadan Sobhi

Goalkeepers: Mohamed El-Shennawy (Al Ahly SC), Mohamed Abougabal (Zamalek SC), Mahdy Soliman (Pyramids FC).

Defenders: Akram Tawfik, Ayman Ashraf (Al Ahly SC), Baher El Mohamady (Ismaily SC), Ali Gabr, Omar Gaber (Pyramids FC), Mahmoud Hamdi ‘El-Wensh’, Mohamed Abdelshafy, Ahmed Fetouh (Zamalek), Ahmed Hegazi (Ittihad Jeddah).

Midfielders: Tarek Hamed, Ahmed Sayed Zizo (Zamalek SC), Amr El-Sulya, Hussein El-Shahat, Hamdi Fathi, Mohamed Magdy Afsha (Al Ahly SC), Ramadan Sobhi, Abdallah El-Said (Pyramids FC), Mostafa Fathi (Smouha SC), Mohamed Elneny (Arsenal).
