Al Ahly boss Pitso Mosimane eyeing victory over Al Hilal in last round matches

Al Ahly will host Sudanese side Al Hilal on Sunday evening 8:00pm for last round of group matches.

Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane has reassured fans that they will play for the win against Al Hilal in the CAF Champions League.

The Cairo giants have struggled to secure qualification for the CAF Champions League quarter-finals after dropping points highlighted by two defeats to South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns.

With seven points in five games, Al Ahly find themselves second in Group A knowing that at least a draw against third-placed Al Hilal in their final group game should seal qualification to the quarter-final.

Speaking ahead of the game, Mosimane talked about the game and believes his side will thrive under pressure and ultimately go through to the next round.

“The game [against Al Hilal] comes at the end of a long journey in the group stages, so it will be a difficult one because both teams are looking to win to qualify to the quarter-finals,” Mosimane said.

“Part of Al Ahly’s strength is that they always qualify in the last group game, and this happened on more than one occasion.

“I expect the match to be more difficult tomorrow, especially since Al Hilal will play attacking football and do everything they can to qualify.”

Mosimane also talked about personnel issues as the injured trio Mohamed Abdelmonem, Ramy Rabia, and Hamdy Fathi remain doubts for the decisive encounter on Sunday.

“I am used to a lot of injuries after the international break,” he continued. “But I know very well that I have players that can compensate for absences.

“Al Ahly will play to win against Al Hilal in tomorrow’s match, even though we can advance in the event of a draw, but we always play to get the victory.”
