Ahmed Nasser: Former Egyptian International announces retirement after failed Egyptian Premier League comeback
Egyptian defender, Ahmed Nasser, announced his retirement following his failed move to newly-promoted El-Sharkia Lel Dokhan.
A product of Zamalek’s academy, Nasser left the White Knights in 2014 after failing to make a single first team appearance to join Ismaily for two years, before joining Ittihad of Alexandria for only one year. He then tore his ACL which led the Alexandrian club to terminate his contract.
After becoming a free agent in July of 2017, Nasser decided to leave to Europe and undergo trials with various clubs. He tried out for then Bundesliga side FC Nurnberg, Czech’s Slavia Prague as well as Utrecht and Ajax Amsterdam of the Netherlands.
Unfortunately none of these trials panned out and he was without a club until he signed for Greek Second Divison side PS Kalamata last summer.
Ahmed Nasser only made four appearances during the 2020/2021 season across the league and cup and helped his side finish fifth on the league table.
The 29-year-old then returned to his home country this summer to sign for El-Sharkia. But in a shocking turn of events, he announced his retirement after a disagreement with the club’s board.
“Today I announce the most difficult decision of my life, but it’s the right decision, god willing. After a long journey with my true love, football, where I was honored to be raised and play for the African great Zamalek, going from the youth sector to the first team,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
“Then El-Gouna and my best period in the great Ismaily club and then Ittihad of Alexandria. Then my journey in Europe, initially with the Ajax B team, then several other Dutch clubs, followed by Greece’s Kalamata where we secured promotion.
“Then a few days ago I signed for Sharkia Lel Dokhan, but the management and technical staff did not abide by what was agreed upon in an unprofessional act, after I left Europe following our agreement and signed the contract.
“Therefore, I decided to retire from football and focus on management and investment with Ahmed Abdelkader ‘Mido’, and may god help me,” he concluded.
