Al Ahly heating up in transfer window after eyeing move for out of favour Brighton star Percy Tau

Al Ahly are interested in signing Percy Tau from Brighton and Hove Albion as the club looks to secure a marquee signing for head coach Pitso Mosimane.

Mosimane recently claimed he’s looking to sign three players ahead of next season and KickOff has revealed that Ahly have enquired about the availability of the Bafana Bafana forward.

The 27-year-old has struggled to establish himself in the first-team of the Premier League side since receiving his work permit and being recalled from his loan spell.

After a full pre-season with the club, who denied him to chance to represent South Africa at the Olympic games there’s been growing confidence that he may be afforded more opportunities in the 2021/22 campaign.

However, an insider at the Seagulls says Tau hasn’t been offered assurances of first-team football while the recent £50 million (R996m) sale of Ben White has opened up a significant transfer kitty for the English side.

“It’s been communicated to Tau that he may not get many opportunities in the starting line-up but he should work hard and fight to earn his place,” the source told KickOff.

“There’s definite interest in Darwin Nunez, even since last season, the Odsonne Edouard talk is complete nonsense though but should another forward arrive before the end of the transfer window, it will be hard for Tau.”

The source further claimed that Tau’s future would depend on the offer the Red Devils are prepared to present and if the English club could secure their preferred targets before the end of the transfer window on August 31.

Mosimane, who played an integral role in Tau’s rise to become the attacking talisman of the South Africa national team confirmed to Soccer Laduma on Tuesday that he’s open to the idea of reuniting with the mercurial forward.

“I have a very good relationship with Percy,” he said. “And if he is available, why not? And also, does he want to come back to Africa?

“Can we afford the transfer fee Brighton would demand? And also, would we satisfy his personal terms?  If all those boxes can be ticked, then I will have a huge interest on this one.”
