SuperSport United reportedly interested in signing Mamelodi Sundowns ace Promise Mkhuma

SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews has explained why the club did not sign Mamelodi Sundowns player Promise Mkhuma during the January transfer window, but revealed that they have not closed the door in their pursuit of the midfielder.

Mkhuma had been lined-up for a loan move to Tshwane rivals Matsatsantsa before the close of the transfer window in January.

SuperSport, however, ended up going for a more experienced Aubrey Ngoma, who joined the club as a free agent on a deal until the end of the season, with an option to extend.

“We were looking at bringing Promise Mkhuma in, but at the time the feeling was that he himself has not played much football at Sundowns and his age and everything, it’s like bringing in another youngster.

“So, that’s why we decided not to go for Promise and why we went for Ngoma, just for the experience,” Matthews told the Soccer Laduma.

Matthews further revealed that the club could still make a move for the midfielder in the next transfer window.

“Promise is a good youngster that we like a lot and I am going to try get him again at the end of the season. I think SuperSport could be the right place for him. He could thrive at us and really do well and get game-time and get the experience that he needs. If he comes to us, we can offer him a lot of game-time. It can be a win-win.”

Mkhuma, who was on the bench for Sundowns in last night’s 6-0 win over lower division side Mathaithai FC, has not made an appearance for the DStv Premiership holders this season.

Matthews, meanwhile, confirmed that Ngoma has an option to extend, as previously reported by the Siya crew.

“We have an option to extend on Aubrey Ngoma’s contract,” he added.
