Phakamani Mahlambi’s exit from Mamelodi Sundowns explained by agent

Phakamani Mahlambi’s agent Glyn Binkin has revealed what led to his client leaving Mamelodi Sundowns.

On several occasions the experienced football agent has told this South African outlet KickOff that the former Al Ahly attacker will not leave The Brazilians as he is happy at the club, and willing to stay on and fight for his position.

The 23-year-old has since joined AmaZulu on a season-long loan as he failed to live up to expectations after showing glimpses of his potential at the now defunct Bidvest Wits a few seasons ago.

What followed then was a big move to Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the 2017/2018 season, during which he made 15 appearances, while scoring one goal and registering five assists, as the club went on to win the Egyptian Premier League.

When he joined Sundowns at the start of the 2018/19 season, he went on to make 18 league appearances and scored 4 goals, but last season he managed only four league appearances.

According to Binkin, it was the technical team that suggested the player go looking for game time elsewhere as he was not in their plans for the current season.

“Ja, it was up to the coaches and they felt like it was better for him to go out and get game time,” Binkin explains to KickOff.com.

“We are very happy, we had good discussions with AmaZulu, and I like the vision and direction that the club is going in, so when the opportunity arose, it was good. He’s very happy and grateful to AmaZulu for giving him the opportunity.”

Asked why the player’s career stagnated a bit since leaving Wits, Binkin responded: “No, the past is the past, we can’t change the past. We’ve got to look towards the future.”
