Kaizer Chiefs linked with five forwards amid striking problems

Amakhosi have the chance on five players to sign one or two of them following slow start to the 2022-2023 South African Premiership season.
Kaizer Chiefs suffered a big blow ahead of their clash with Mamelodi Sundowns when Ashley du Preez was ruled out of the blockbuster PSL match over the weekend.

Amakhosi were hammered 4-0 by Masandawana with their only experienced striker in Du Preez missing due to an injury which he picked up against Maritzburg United last week Tuesday.

Having released Lazarous Kambole, Leonardo Castro and Samir Nurkovic at the end of the 2021-12 season, the Glamour Boys are shopping for strikers.

Strikers Darren Smith, Wayde Lekay, Fuad Johnson and Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana have all undergone trials at Chiefs.

However, only Bimenyimana impressed and Amakhosi are keen to sign him.

Here are five strikers Kaizer Chiefs should consider signing

Pavol Safranko

The Slovakia international impressed on his debut season in South Africa – scoring nine goals from 27 matches across all competitions.

However, Safranko’s future with Sundowns is reportedly uncertain and the club is said to be looking to offload him in order to create space in their foreign quota.

Masandawana have signed Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil and Chile international Marcelo Allende in the current transfer window.

Judas Moseamedi

The lanky marksman is known for having a knack for scoring against Chiefs and he is one of the most underrated strikers in the PSL having scored 29 goals from 67 starts in the PSL.

A member of the Bafana Bafana squad at the 2017 Cosafa Cup in the North West, Moseamedi, 28, is currently on the books of Stellenbosch FC who sold Du Preez to Amakhosi a few months ago.

While Zitha Kwinika also rejoined the Chiefs from Stellies in the current transfer window.

Chibuike Ohizu

The Nigerian marksman was one of the standout performers in the PSL in the first round of the 2021-22 season and he was linked with Orlando Pirates.

However, Sekhukhune United have managed to retain his services for now with the club’s CEO Jonas Malatji having told GOAL that Pirates are yet to approach him two months ago.

The 25-year-old is expected to struggle for game time this season at Sekhukhune with Tshegofatso Mabaso, Victor Letsoalo and Tashreeq Morris all preferred ahead of him.

Lebogang Mothiba

The Bafana Bafana international returned to Strasbourg two months ago after a short-term loan spell with Troyes where he netted twice in five starts in Ligue 1.

Mothiba, 26, who has never played professionally in South Africa, is yet to feature for Strasbourg this term with his future at the Ligue 1 side uncertain.

Chiefs signed his Bafana teammate Keagan Dolly from Ligue 1 side Montpellier last year on a free transfer, but Mothiba is contracted to Strasbourg until June 2024 and Amakhosi would have to purchase him.

Knox Mutizwa

The Zimbabwe international is one of the most dangerous strikers in the PSL and he is Lamontville Golden Arrows’ all-time top scorer.

Deadly from set-pieces, Mutizwa has scored 44 goals from 108 starts in the PSL and he is currently in his seventh season in South African football.

However, the former Bidvest Wits player has been used as a bit part player by current coaches Vusumuzi Vilakazi and Mabhuti Khenyeza.
