Jesualdo Ferreira: Zamalek head coach expresses frustration after 2-2 in Cairo derby

Zamalek head coach Jesualdo Ferreira has expressed his frustration following his side’s draw against Al Ahly in the Cairo derbY.

The White Knights shared the spoils with Al Ahly in a thrilling 2-2 draw in the Egyptian Premier League’s postponed Cairo derby on Sunday.

Mohamed Sherif opened the scoring early in the game after capitalising on a defensive error before Mahmoud Abdel-Razek Shikabala inspired a comeback for Zamalek.

However, second-half substitute Salah Mohsen levelled the scoring with ten minutes remaining to salvage a point for Al Ahly.

The draw maintained a four-point gap between the Cairo giants in the Egyptian Premier League table with Al Ahly having three games in hand.

“We didn’t have a good start but we improved in the second half and the latter stages of the game were difficult,” Ferreira said at the press conference.

“The performance levels dropped after we took the lead, but we still had chances to score towards the end of the game.

“If you compare the number of their [Al Ahly’s] chances and ours, it shows that we were the better side and I am proud of the team.

“I did not like the result because we deserved to win, but we will have to wait and see who see who can win the title.”

“The competition in Egypt is tough because we have to play another game in just two days, and Al Ahly is also under pressure now.

“This system must change because it does not make sense to continue playing league games until September every season.”
