Jean Othos scores as Simba beat Wydad Casablanca 1-0 CAF Champions quarter finals first leg

Simba Sporting Club beat Wydad Casablanca 1-0 in first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter finals at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Tanzania.

Simba dominated and defeated the Botola Pro 1 champions on Saturday as Juan Carlos Garrido’s men were sluggish at some point of the game.

Wydad Casablanca had been known to be a determined and passionate side but there were less of these characters against the former Tanzanian Premier League champions. Prior expectation about Wydad was quickly redrawn after Simba showing a very brilliant side not only on the ball but in defensive organization.

It it paid off as Jean Othos put Simba ahead on the 30’minute mark and the only goal of the clash. Wydad came in stronger in the second half but not for a longer period. A best WAC chance saw El Hassouni failed to connect from inside the 6 yard a Bouhra’s delivery into the box.

Simba increased their momentum for the second goal and got those chances coming in but couldn’t utilized them. Simba were smooth in the final third but accuracy in deliveries from behind the box or final pass was a major Simba problem.

Simba will travel to face Wydad in Casablanca a week later. Their destiny is in their own hands where they have to guide their 1-0 lead from the first half to qualify to the semifinals of the African Champions League.
