Former Zamalek SC president Galal Ibrahim passes away after battling with health condition

Former Zamalek president Galal Ibrahim had passed away yesterday after battling some serious health issues.

Ibrahim had taken the role of president of Zamalek on two occasions, from 1992 to 1996, and from 2010 to 2011.

Zamalek fans will always remember the former president for his time leading the club in the 90s as the Whites saw major continental success back then.

The White Knights have won two CAF Champions League titles between 1992 and 1996, the first of which in 1993 and the second in 1996. During that time, they had also claimed their first CAF Super Cup title in 1994.

It is also worth mentioning that Galal Ibrahim’s son is the current vice president of the White Castle.

The Cairo giants have opened a strong start to this season’s Egyptian Premier League but have only been leapfrogged at the table top by rivals Al Ahly.

However, they beat Ismaily to return to winning ways in attempt to keep pace with Ahly for defending the title.

Zamalek dominated the game early on while Ismaily relied on counter-attacks to snatch the game’s opening goal, and in the 25th minute, the hosts were close to scoring as Abdelrahman Maagdy’s shot narrowly missed the target.

Despite both teams searching for a winning goal before the half-time break, their chances were futile as both defenses stopped all opposing team danger.

In the second half of the match, both teams were less aggressive with Zamalek being slightly more dangerous.

In the 82nd minute, Zamalek were awarded a penalty kick that was executed by Ahmed Sayed Zizo who scored his fourth goal this season from the spot.

Ismaily then made a few attempts to return to the game, but ten minutes later and in the injury time, Omar El-Said added a second goal for Zamalek after a long ball from Zizo to end the game with the result of 2-0.

With this win, Zamalek moved up to third place on the league table with nine points from four games behind Pyramids and Al Ahly. While Ismaily will keep sitting in last place with zero points.
