Khaya Shozi: Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder admitted to psychiatric hospital in Johannesburg
Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Khaya Shozi has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital in Johannesburg.
Shozi was reported missing by his family in KwaZulu-Natal a few weeks ago after he disappeared for almost four months without a trace.
The 27-year-old midfielder was later found in Johannesburg last week in an unstable mental condition. Shozi has since been booked into a psychiatric hospital in Johannesburg for a few weeks before being released to reunite with his family in KwaZulu-Natal.
The Shozi family spokesperson, Simphiwe Shozi confirmed that his brother will be moving to KwaZulu-Natal soon for some ritual purposes.
“We are hurt and saddened as a family with all the activities that happened around my brother. It’s very painful. Our focus at the moment is to help Khaya get out of this situation and condition that he is currently in. The rest we will deal with it at a later stage,” Shozi tells Kickoff.com.
“He is currently in hospital at the moment. The two doctors have discovered a few things related to his mental condition. This gives us hope that he will recover very soon. We also planning to go home very soon to perform some rituals related to his condition,” he added.
The Shozi family has thanked the South African football fraternity for their support shown to Khaya Shozi during his difficult period.
“I want to thank the South Africans and the football fraternity for the support. I also want to thank coach Rulani Mokwena, the people at Mamelodi Sundowns and even the security officers, players, the fans and everyone for the support and for being with us during this difficult period,” he added.
