Liverpool could replace Mohamed Salah with Memphis Depay as Reds enter race with Barcelona for ex-Manchester United winger

Liverpool’s front line could be revamped this summer amid links to Lyon forward Memphis Depay.

Questions have been asked of attacking trio Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino this season, with the Premier League champions struggling to make top four.

Salah, the Reds’ top scorer this term, has been linked with Barcelona and Real Madrid – and any potential departure would leave the club needing a lethal replacement.

According to Marca, Liverpool have identified Holland star Depay as a potential target.

The 27-year-old has rejuvenated his career in France since joining Lyon in 2017 following a terrible 18-month spell with Manchester United.

In 169 appearances for the French side, he has scored 69 times and provided a further 52 assists – and could be available for free this summer.

His contract is set to expire when the season ends in June, although Liverpool face fierce competition from Barcelona, who failed to sign the Dutchman last summer.

Depay was expected to link up with former Holland boss Ronald Koeman at the Nou Camp before a move fell through, and it is understood Barca remain interested.

The Spanish giants also want to sign Liverpool’s Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, who looks set to be available on a free transfer this summer as well.
