Arsenal  interested in signing Chris Smalling but face likelihood of not been sold to by Manchester United

Arsenal still knee on signing reinforcements despite on football  activities in place due to coronavirus crisis.

According to reports from Corriere dello Sport, Arsenal are keen to enter negotiations with Manchester United for centre-back Chris Smalling.

Smalling, 30, was loan out to Roma this season after being told by boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that his playing time would be limited, following Harry Maguire’s big-money arrival.

With North Londons ready to hunt for experience players at the back and United’s loanee having played pretty well this season in Rome, Arsenal are in the driving seat to get a deal done for the center-back.

The English International would cost Arsenal around United’s asking price of €25 million that forced Roma, who have the first option to make the loan deal permanent, loss interest in signing Smalling.

Roma’s action now put the Gunners as prime frontrunners for sealing Smalling transfer in summer as Mikel Arteta looks desperate to find solutions to his team’s sloppy defense.

There could be in what’s a tug of war theory, involving Manchester United distancing self from selling to Arsenal and Arteta’s side willing to snatch the defender.

While Arsenal see the Englishman as a perfect replacement for Laurent Koscielny- who the signing of David Luiz hasn’t worked out as the ideal replacement, Manchester would not sell Smalling to Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Even if Arsenal meet United’s asking price and could be forced to look elsewhere for possible options available.
