Real Madrid eyeing Aguero and Giroud as replacement for Luka Jovic while bid for Erling Haaland still in place

Real Madrid are reportedly planning a January bid to bring in Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and French World Cup winner Olivier Giroud to replace Luka Jovic.

The Serbian International has failed to live up to expectation since arriving in the Spanish capital from Germany in June 2019, falling behind Karim Benzema- who has been Madrid’s main source of goal after departure of Cristiano Ronaldo- in the pecking order.

In many cases, Mariano Diaz was preferred to Jovic as Benzema’s  backup, and despite a switch of formation from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 with Benzema deployed as the no.10, Jovic still failed to replicate his Eintracht Frankfurt form at the Bernabeu Stadium.

Jovic’s poor 18-months show into his 6-year contract at Real Madrid has saw him moved out on loan to his former club Frankfurt until the end of the current season after Frankfurt confirmed the deal on twitter last Thursday via Marca.

With Jovic’s departure making Benzema the only centre-forward in Bernabeu- though the French International is traditionally flanked by Eden Hazard, Diaz and Marco Asensio, Real Madrid have opened a search for a new centre-forward who could replace Luka Jovic.

A host of names have been linked in Madrid’s recent transfer talks in the media where Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud and Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero are the leading candidates but Zidane is reportedly a full fan of the Argentine International.

Both Giroud and Aguero are available in the January transfer window as the French ace enters into his final six month of his Chelsea contract and is free to open new negotiations with any club of choice.

Aguero’s contract at Manchester City also runs out at the end of this season and City may consider selling him this January before he leaves for free at the end of this term.

Real Madrid, who are forced to make a choice over Aguero or Giroud for remainder of the season, are negatively impacted by lack of matchday revenue from games resulting from the coronavirus pandemic and may need a new striker in either Aguero or Giroud amid vacuum created by Jovic’s departure.

According to reports in Spain, Real Madrid are not looking up to bigger spending in this January transfer window as the Los Blancos knee on doing so next season with Bundesliga and Ligue 1 sensations eyed so claimed by AS.

It[s reckoned that Florentino Pérez is much aware of Erling Haaland’s availability though Dortmund are reportedly not ready to sell the Norwegian ace this month that force Real Madrid to consider lower options in Giroud, Aguero, Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard or Arkadiusz Milik from Napoli.

The Dortmund star’s form, hitting 19 goals in 16 Bundesliga games so far, has never earned him shortage of interest from top elite clubs in Europe with Real Madrid reportedly among favorites to land the forward in the future.

Madrid’s hierarchy have already register their concern of interest to Haaland’s agent “Mino” Raiola ahead of long term stay in Spain.

Real Madrid are understood to planning a long term signing with the Dortmund ace possibly beginning of 2021/2022 season along with a move for PSG star Kylian Mbappe which this plan doesn’t still prevent Madrid from going in for Aguero or Giroud this January.

Meaning, despite Real Madrid eyeing next summer big money moves for Haaland and Mbappe in a bid to improve their front line, they will still go ahead with a January bid for a new striker given the departure of Jovic with Giroud and Aguero emerging as strong contenders though Odsonne Edouard or Arkadiusz Milik are also with the frame of Madrid’s consideration.

However, Madrid may face a stiffer competition from Barcelona for Aguero after the Argentine also eyed in Camp Nou.
