Manchester United handed big Cody Gakpo boost and other transfer rumours

Manchester United have been handed a potential boost in their pursuit of top target Cody Gakpo.

The PSV Eindhoven winger was eyed up by United last summer but a deal never materialised. He has enjoyed a superb start to the campaign in Holland, with a staggering 14 goals and 14 assists to his name already.

He is now preparing to represent the Netherlands in the World Cup but a fresh report claims he could be on the move in January.

90min say that PSV are prepared to let the player leave in January and that the 23-year-old could be sold for the right price following the conclusion of the tournament in Qatar.

A host of clubs are said to be competing for his signature, though United’s interest remains firmly in place. A fee of around £40m has been mooted for Gakpo.

Meanwhile, United have been linked with a fresh name and a surprise swoop for one of their Premier League rivals’ goalkeepers. Teamtalk reports Erik ten Hag’s side are contemplating a move for Brighton’s Robert Sanchez next summer.

David de Gea’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign but his future looks uncertain. Ironically, Sanchez was chosen for Spain’s World Cup squad at the expense of De Gea and now he could usurp his rival at club level.

If United do wish to push forward with a move, Brighton are likely to demand a sizeable fee given their penchant for driving a hard bargain in previous sales including the likes of Marc Cucurella and Ben White.
