Arsenal Transfer News: Paul Merson send Declan Rice summer transfer message to Arsenal

It seems Declan Rice is put up for sale before the summer transfer window opens, and he has been tipped to join either Chelsea or Manchester United when the summer transfer opens.

Chelsea reported advantage lead in the race for the West Ham man has put United in the shadows of the race for player’s transfer.

However, famous English football television pundit and former professional footballer Paul Merson has told Sky Sports that Chelsea rivals Arsenal need the defensive midfielder the most that Frank Lampard’s side.

“Chelsea have been linked with him, but I don’t know why Arsenal aren’t looking at Declan Rice.

“Arsenal are crying out for a holding midfield player. They don’t need a midfielder who’s going to be on the edge of the opposition box, they need a disciplined defensive midfielder, who is going to sit in front of the back four and organise the side; one who, when he gets the ball, gives it simple with 10-yard passes.

“It’s such a hard job and that’s why I can’t believe Arsenal aren’t going in for a player like Rice.

“A player like Rice can allow the attacking players to flourish and it gives the central defenders the chance to be better than what they are.

Rice joined West Ham in July 2017 and is tie down in West London until 2024. He has been described ‘the best holding midfielder in England’ by manager David Moyes back in February.

Moyes has maintained that he wants Declan Rice to remain at West Ham, but has also admitted that the England international could leave in the summer.

“Quite often when building a club you have to sell. I hope it’s not the case with Declan but I said the same with Wayne Rooney and Joleon Lescott [at Everton]. But the team got better because we were able to sign the right players to replace them. If that ever came around [Rice leaving] I’d hope we’d be able to do the same here as well.”
