Chelsea officially announce the signing of free agent Malang Sarr

Chelsea have officially completed the signing of free agent Malang Sarr with the defender set to be loaned out in 2020-2021 season after signing a five year deal at Stamford Bridge.

It’s understood that Chelsea could overhaul its defensive setup ahead of the summer transfer window and a number of reinforcement are expected to join up on flip side of the coin.

And Sarr’s transfer has become important in Chelsea’s transfer talks since early this week. The former Nice centre-back runned out of contract at the Ligue 1 side and never reached arrangement over a new deal.

He has been snatched up by Chelsea where Frank Lampard is reportedly to monitor Sarr last season. The 21-year old played over 100 Ligue 1 games for Nice before quitting for the Premier League.

The Blues have decided to loan him out for his first season at Stamford Bridge to gain more first-team experience. It has not yet been announced where Sarr will play next season on a temporary deal.

However, many Bundesliga clubs already said to be keen after he left Nice at the end of his contract in July.

After the deal for the French International, Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia stated: “The opportunity to sign Malang was one we could not miss.

“He is a tremendous prospect and we will be monitoring him closely during his loan period, hoping he will soon be back at Chelsea.

“We are very happy to welcome him to the club today.”
