Chelsea set to accelerate interest in Celtic Juranovic after Reece James injury worry

Chelsea are ready to revive their interest in Celtic right-back Josip Juranovic as they await news on the extent of Reece James’ latest injury setback.

Blues star James was forced off on his long-awaited return to action, in a 2-0 win against Bournemouth on Tuesday, from the knee injury that kept him sidelined for three months and ruled him out of the World Cup.

The news is set to see Chelsea accelerate their long-term interest in Croatia international Juranovic.

The 27-year-old, who was named in the World Cup team of the year, could cost as little as £8million.

Celtic are understood to be open to listening to offers for their star defender during the January transfer window amid growing Premier League interest.

The Scottish club have already agreed a deal to sign right back Alistair Johnston from MLS club CF Montreal.

Chelsea were interested in Juranovic during the summer window and a deal could be wrapped up quickly once the January market reopens on Sunday.

Juranovic was unquestionably one of the best defenders at the World Cup, his performance against Brazil – in which he largely nullified Vinicius Jr – particularly eye-catching.

And he is now set for a move to England with Chelsea, among others, readying an approach.
