Kotoku Royals sack head coach Seth Ablade five months into appointment

Premier League side Kotoku Royals have terminated their contract with the 39-year-old gaffer following the club’s uninspiring performance in the 2022/23 season’s campaign.

Ghana Premier League newcomers Kotoku Royals have sacked their head coach Seth Ablade after just five months of his appointment.

Ablade was appointed as head coach of Kotoku Royals prior to the start of the club’s debut season in the Ghana Premier League after his contract with Medeama SC as technical director had been abrogated.
The club’s official statement reads “Kotoku Royals Football Club has relieved Seth Ablade from official duties as head coach. The club would like to thank the coach and wish him the very best in his future endeavours,”
He joined Kotoku Royals in August 2022 and guided to eight league matches and secured only four points — 1 win and 1 draw — and suffered six defeats, leaving the club at the bottom of the table.
Kotoku Royals has appointed former West African Football Academy (WAFA) and Asante Kotoko coach Akakpo Patron to be in charge of the first team on interim basis.
“Assistant coach Raphael Akakpo Patron will take temporary charge as first team coach until a new coach is appointed” the club’s official statement stated.
Kotoku Royals will face Legon Cities when the Ghana Premier League resumes on 19 December.
Back in 2020, Ablade reflected on some of the coaching challenges when he bossed at Finnish side FC Jazz.
“My first season as head coach was back last October and together with the team’s background staff we reflect on how we managed to do it. That is how the puzzle started to form for part of this season and we started to develop a few things. Now, during the winter season, we have paid special attention to being athletic and playing together as a team.”

“The training season started already in November, so the team is already quite long. We also had time to play a few practice games, which showed that there was still some way to the top games, but a lot of them were good.”

“This is my second year as a representative team coach. It is good to be in the company, although now everyone here has to give up a bit on his or her earnings as the activity stops.“

“Physical coaches, talent coach, coaching manager and other full-time and part-time employees are blowing in one direction.”

“If you are concerned about something, it is nice to almost always find someone with whom you can talk. It’s also great to be interested in the activities of the representative team and to share my thoughts with other coaches in the club. That way I have received a lot of help UEFA PRO-training,” Ablade concluded.

Ablade, who was a member of the Ghana U17 team that finished 3rd in New Zealand 1999, arrived in Finland in 2004 and featured for clubs including KuPS and AC Oulu.
