Asante Kotoko coach Prosper Narteh explains shock defeat to Real Tamale United

Asante Kotoko suffered their third loss of the Ghana Premier League season at Real Tamale United last Sunday at the Tamale National Stadium. Thanks to Ronald Frimpong and Victor Aidoo strikes in each half that sank the leaders in the North.

Mbella sparked a potential fight-back but couldn’t beat the test of time to achieve that after the Cameroonian International converting a last-minute penalty to send his tally to 17 goals of the season.

After the loss Asante Kotoko boss Prosper Narteh has blamed his players’ lack of focus for their shock defeat to Real Tamale United in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

The loss see the Porcupine Warriors defeated in RTU for over a decade no.  Ronald Frimpong and Victor Aidoo were both on target as the northern giants secured the important win to boost their survival hopes.

On the day, Kotoko looked sloppy with little urgency from their players, Narteh Ogum believes that attitude is one of the reason Kotoko came home from Tamale with on point in hand.

The former WAFA manager has also claimed that his players lacked focus on the pitch and there was a general lack of playing to instructions.

“I think they lost their focus on the field, most of the things that they were doing especially with the ball were not the things that they were supposed to do.”

“They were too individualistic on the field, most of the players didn’t play as a unit, as a team and I think that actually affected us.” Prosper Narteh Ogum told StarTimes.

“If you look at the penalty we conceded, it was not necessary, I mean the tackle from Patrick Asmah was not necessary.”

Kotoko remain eight points clear at the top and will hope to bounce back to winning ways in their next game against Legon Cities. Asante Kotoko named their usual starting lineup with only Samuel Appiah and Patrick Asmah coming in for Christopher Nettey and Imoro Ibrahim respectively in a strong Porcupine Warriors XI.

Ogum slams Patrick Asmah for ‘unnecessary’ penalty against RTU

Asante Kotoko coach Dr Prosper Ogum has expressed disappointment in defender Patrick Asmah after his tackle in the box led to a penalty for Real Tamale United.

Asmah bumped into Ronald Frimpong in the box leading to a penalty, which was converted to hand the host the lead. Kotoko ended up losing 2-1 at the Aliu Mahama stadium.

“If you look at the penalty we conceded, it was not necessary, I mean the tackle from Patrick Asmah was not necessary,” Prosper Narteh told StarTimes.

Frimpong scored the first goal for the hosts, converting a penalty after Patrick Asmah’s rush challenge in the box.

Samuel Boateng had two great chances to bring Kotoko level, but he squandered them as the first half ended with RTU leading.

RTU were able to thwart every attempt by Kotoko to restore parity after the break. They defended admirably and later doubled their lead thanks to Aidoo.
