Aduana Stars 0-2 Asante Kotoko: Mfegue and Lamptey goals end Kotoko winless history at Dormaa as Reds extend Ghana Premier League lead

Impressive Asante Kotoko ended their winless history at Dormaa after beating Aduana Stars in away fixture on Saturday afternoon.

The Kumasi based side had never won against Aduana Stars at Dormaa across all competitions but has broke the jinx in the 2021-2022 league season with Cameroonian forward Mfegue and Richmond Lamptey scoring in each half to complete achievement of that feat.

The home team started the game on a higher note after initiating a build with a sumptuous exchange of passes into Kotoko’s area but was dealt with properly by the visitors.

The Porcupine Warriors with a quick response after Frank Mbella had set up Richmond Lamptey with a fine pass but the final execution was dealt with properly by Joseph Addo.

Richard Boadu became the first player to get into the books of the referee after a harsh challenge on Kwame Adom Frimpong on the 8th minute.

Aduana Stars cleared Mudasiru Salifu’s free kick and used that as a break propelled by Emmanuel Gyamfi but Richard Boadu raced back quickly to tidy up the situation.

Finally, Kotoko took the lead on the 19th minute after Cameroonian George Mfegue headed into the net from Imoro Ibrahim’s corner kick.

The travellers nearly doubled their lead on the 34th minute but unlucky Mudasiru had his shot denied by the upright.

Another woodwork hit as Kotoko nearly scored again but Stephen Amankona once again had his effort stopped.

Back from recess, Kotoko dealt with another injury blow same reason Mfegue left the pitch. Imoro rose back to continue but Frank Mbella couldn’t continue and went off for Evans Adomako

The Fire Boys nearly snatched the equaliser on the 65th minute but Bright Adjei had his header calmly collected by Ibrahim Danlad.

Aduana Stars continue with their pressure but Samuel Bioh had his strike stopped by Ismail Ganiyu.

The ‘Kum Apem’ lads finally increased their tally just on the stroke of full time through Richmond Lamptey.

The win sees Kotoko extend their lead to three points above their today’s opponents and King Faisal who play their game against Bibiani Gold Stars on Sunday.
