Karlsruher manager praises Ghanaian defender Stephan Ambrosius following impressive displays

Karlsruher manager  Christian Eichner is full of praise for new recruit Stephan Ambrosius following his explosives start to life at the club.

The Ghanaian defender has been in good form since joining from rivals Hamburg on loan in the summer transfer window.

Ambrosius impressed in the victories over Jahn Regensburg and Hansa Rostock, with Karlsruher yet to concede since his arrival.

“Stephan has taken another big step,” said Christian Eichner.

Meanwhile, former Karlsruher and Bayern Munich legend Oliver Kreuzer extoled the qualities of the Ghanaian centre-back.

“Stephan plays with us as a right central defender in a back four. His calmness on the ball is impressive, he’s doing a very good job so far,” he said.

“Stephan plays very aggressively, has a strong defensive header, good timing, defends well going forward. He always wants to dismantle his opponent, can read the game, has a good eye.”

“In his first two appearances he was often correct when opponents passed through the gaps. He was already there when the ball came. I liked that very much. It’s no coincidence that he’s in the extended circle for Ghana’s World Cup squad.”

Defender eyes World Cup spot

The former Germany youth international switched nationalities to represent Ghana in July 2022.

Ambrosius has been in fine form for German Bundesliga II side Karlsruher, helping them to back-to-back victories without conceding a goal.

“I step on the gas and ultimately the coach will decide whether my performance is sufficient or not,” said Ambrosius.

The 23-year-old is expected to make his Black Stars debut in September when Ghana play Brazil in an international friendly.

His performance could determine if he will make Otto Addo’s team to the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Stephan Abrosius is on a season-long loan from Hamburg SV.
