Zamalek president Mortada Mansour have announced the return of Jesualdo Ferreira as the club’s head coach just eight days after his sacking.

Jesualdo Ferreira was sacked from his role following a surprising Egyptian Premier League defeat against Ghazl El-Mahalla which left the team fifth on the league table.

The El-Mahalla defeat came following a run of poor results, which saw the team get knocked out of the Egypt Cup by ten-men Pyramids FC and was followed by a heavy 3-0 loss in the Cairo derby.

This led Zamalek to relieve Ferreira from his duties and appoint him as a technical consultant to the club’s board of directors, with Osama Nabih taking charge of the first-team duties.

Nabih led Zamalek to pick up their first win in 2023 over Future FC on Sunday, but just days later, the club announced the shock return of Ferreira and demoted Nabih to be his assistant.

It’s understood that the decision was recommended by Nabih, and the club agreed to it on the condition that Ferreira returns alone without his former assistants Rui Águas and Daniel Gonçalves.

“Jesualdo Ferreira returns to lead Zamalek on Thursday and a new fitness coach will be hired,” Mansour said on Wednesday night.

“I hope that the good relationship between Ferreira and Osama Nabih will return as it was previously, before the intervention of others.

“Nabih sent a message to Ferreira and telling him that he is waiting for him to lead Zamalek again for the interest of the club,” Mansour added.

Zamalek currently sit fourth on the Egyptian Premier League table, eight points behind leaders Al Ahly, who still have a game in hand.

Their next game will be up against 12th-placed Pharco, before shifting their focus to the CAF Champions League when they host CR Belouizdad in their group opener.
