Former Asante Kotoko coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum appointed Black Stars scout ahead of Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup

Former Asante Kotoko boss Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum has been appointed as Black Stars scout to aid Ghana in the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The 2022 World Cup finals begins in November with Ghana hoping to better their best tournament performance of South Africa 2010 after reaching the quarter-finals only succumbing to Uruguay in the last 8.

The Black Stars have been placed in Group H along with Uruguay, South Korea and Portugal as Ghana face two former World Cup opponents. Ghana lost to Portugal in Brazil 2014 and suffered a 4-2 penalties loss to Uruguay in 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Heading into Qatar 2022, Ghana’s embarkment on building a strong technical staff to boost their World Cup chances has been evident since May 2022 after the Ghana Football Association appointed Otto Addo, Chris Hughton, George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani as Black Stars permanent coaches. The quartet immediately saw Ghana through to Qatar after sinking Nigeria in the playoff round.

“The Ghana Football Association has appointed Otto Addo, Chris Hughton, George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani as coaches of the senior national team, the Black Stars until the end of December 2022,” GFA wrote on their website.

“The quartet who masterminded Ghana’s qualification to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament will stay on to see to Ghana’s preparation to the world cup, the 2023 AFCON qualifiers and the world cup itself.”

“This follows an exhaustive negotiation and engagement with all relevant stakeholders including the Ministry of Youth and Sports.”

“The coaches will soon name their squad for Matchday 1 and 2 of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nation Cote D’Ivoire 2023 qualifiers and the four-nation tournament in Japan.”

Ghana have long been searching for scouts to monitor World Cup opponents Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay and Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum who holds a profound experience in the role has been appointed.

According to latest report in footydreamsgh via GhanaWeb, the GFA have appointed Prosper Narteh Ogum as a scout for the Black Stars with the former Asante Kotoko boss handed immediate World Cup task.

Ogum guided Asante Kotoko to Ghana Premier League title last season but resigned at the beginning of this season after differences with club’s officials over players transfer.

He was also linked with a move to rivals Hearts of Oak who parted ways with former coach Samuel Boadu last week. But the 2021-2022 GPL winner rejected Hearts of Oak offer amid his latest Black Stars role.
