Gladson Awako still missing from Hearts of Oak preparations for Wydad Casablanca game despite promising to resume training

Hearts of Oak new signing Gladson Awako has still not reported to training despite promising to return last month as the Ghanaian side prepare for Wydad Casablanca next two weeks.

The team continued their preparation for their CAF Champions League second qualifying round against Wydad with a beach workout on Monday, and there was no sign of Awako.

Hearts returned to the beach after thrashing lower side Tema Youth 4-2 in club friendly over the weekend.

Having joined Hearts in much talked about transfer in the local scene in August, the former TP Mazembe ace has not featured for the Ghana Premier League champions. He only started days of training with his new employers before coming to say he wants to leave the club.

The Ghanaian International was missing out in major preparations for Hearts’ first Caf Champions League game against Club Industriel Kamsar of Guinea.

Awako went on to miss the game itself as Hearts burst into late 2-0 victory. Though, Hearts didn’t seem to be affect by the midfielder’s absence, their fans pointed out his unavailability in matches right after the Kamsar victory.

Awako came out promising fans to rejoin his new teammates which should have seen him available for Wydad Athletic. Looking at what is happening now, it’s very likely that the former Great Olympic captain will miss the game against WAC of Morocco.

Awako, 30, initially withdrew from the Hearts squad citing illness and has shared videos on social media holding personal training. His absence was misinterpreted- according to Awako- with many sources claiming the player has been absenting because he wants to leave Hearts of Oak even when he hasn’t played a match.

The attacking midfielder later issued accusations on the media of peddling false information about him, debunking claims he is forcing his way out of the club less than a month after joining them from Great Olympics.

Awako who contributed more than 10 goals last season agreed a two-year deal with the Ghanaian champions in August. According to reports from Hearts Monday training, Awako has still not return to training.

The Phobians had to compensate Olympics with $15,000 because the midfielder’s contract was due to expire in October and Hearts wanted to register him for the CAF Champions League.

Hearts will play Wydad in Accra on October 17 with the return leg on October 23 in Casablanca.
