Morocco join four others to maintain 100% record in World Cup qualifiers after beating Guinea Bissau 5-0 in Rabat
Morocco maintain a 100% winning record in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers after beating Guinea-Bissau 5-0 in Rabat on Wednesday night.
The North African side defeated Sudan in their first game and they have claimed another convincing victory in their second game of the quantifying round.
Only four countries; Libya, Nigeria, Tunisia and Senegal had won their opening two World Cup fixtures and Morocco emerge as the latest and fifth side to join them.
There is no guarantee that the remaining four teams will extend their victories as Libya travel to face Egypt in Cairo, Senegal host Namibia on Saturday, Nigeria will welcome Central Africa Republic tomorrow and Tunisia face Mauritania in Tunis the same day.
Thanks to Morocco for achieving that feat as well. They broke the deadlock after been stretched by Guinea-Bissau until the 31’minute. Paris Saint-Germain right-back Achraf Hakimi opened the score before Imran Louza converted a penalty to doubled the lead (45+1) as the first half ended 2-0 for the Reds.
Morocco gained absolute control and sealed victory in the second half. IIyas Chaira scored the third goal four minutes after the break. Former Wydad Athletic forward who joined Turkish side Hatayspor this summer netted the fourth goal in what was splendid strike from a bicycle-kick.
The Moroccan Intentional scored 24 goals in 40 league appearances for WAC before leaving for Hatayspor. Sevilla forward and former Barcelona ace Munir El Haddadi made it 5-0 after the 82′ minute.
Munir began his career in the youth ranks of Atlético Madrid before transferring to Barcelona in 2011, where he won the 2013-14 UEFA Youth League. He made his debut for the B-team in March 2014, and scored in his first match for the senior team in August of that year, at the start of a season in which they won the treble. The following year, he was one of five top scorers in the Copa del Rey, which his team won.
Morocco now lead Group I with 6 points, 7 goals scored without conceding. They become the second highest scoring country in the qualifiers after Algeria who have 9 goals. They face each other in Stade Olympique in Bissau this Saturday.
