Asante Kotoko captain Felix Anann insists Kotoko’s league ambition intact despite suspension of league

The skipper of Asante Kotoko, Felix Annan says his club’s ambition to win the Ghana Premier League remains on course despite of suspension of the league due to covid-19 pandemic.

Before the league landed in the unexpected suspension, the Ghanaian champions were sitting fourth on the GPL log with only three points below leaders Aduana Stars.

Anann has played relatively small games in Kotoko’s 25 points accumulation so far, where new signing Kwame Baah has always been preferred in the sticks by coach Maxwell Konadu.

Annan who led Kotoko to the group stages of the 2018-2019 CAF Confederation Cup has insisted the league’s break from coronavirus will not affect Kotoko’s chances of winning this year’s league.

“It will not affect our chances in the league at all because we are all coming back to work hard. I know it will not be easy but we will come back to work hard and fight for the title,” Annan told Graphic Sports.

In the presence of the outbreak where teams are unable to train together as a team in training grounds, players have been put through their paces at home by individual training programs.

This may have both physical, mental and stamina impacts on players, and Anann sees this  to be true and admitted his team is no exception of the impacts brought about by training individually at homes.

“Even though we are training on our own, it is not like training on the pitch (together as a team) but we understand that we’re in a critical situation where life is more important so we need to stay home”.

Annan started the season very well keeping the posts for the first four matches but lost his position to Black Meteor shot stopper Kwame Baah- who has never looked back since Match Day 5 against Cape Coast Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

In that game, Justice Blay and Richard Arthur late strikes handed Kotoko a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Cape Coast based club before traveling to Accra to defeat bitterest rivals Hearts of Oak 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
