Botswana Premier League side Township Rollers sign Ghanaian forward Francis Afriyie from from Gor Mahia

Ghanaian striker Francis Afriyie has completed a switch from Kenyan side Gor Mahia to Township Rollers in the Botswana Premier League.

According to reports, Gor Mahia following their financial difficulties owed the forward some amount of salaries which a move away from Gor Mahia was necessary for the former Bechem United striker.

Afriyie’s father Manfred Takyi was in Kenya last month to hold discussions with the Kenyan Champions, but non of the talks were fruitful before engineering the striker’s move to Rollers later.

Francis Afriyie was tipped to make a move to Spanish side Real Zaragoza and South Africa’s Black Leopards after Christmas holidays, however, Rollers who knee to boost their attacking line amid solving their poor form in the Botswana Premier League for the second round convinced Francis Afriyie to join them.

A statement from the Botswana side reads, “Township Rollers Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Ghana-born striker Francis Afriyie”.

“The 24-year-old who turns 25 on January 18 joins the Blues from Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia on a two and half year contract.

The Ghanaian also confirmed the transfer, “I have signed a half year deal with Rollers. They offered me a good deal which was way above what the rest of the other suitors were offering. I am hoping to win the title with them before my stay comes to an end,” he told reporters.

The signing would come as “a big fish in the basket” for Township Rollers, having the Ghanaian already acquired experience in the Serbian Premier League during his time with Vojvodina and for Murcielagos in Mexico.

He also bagged six goals in 11 appearances for Gor Mahia before leaving the Kenyan Premier League for the Botswana League.
