Ghana in Africa: Asante Kotoko face Burkina Faso giants RC Kadiogo in Caf Champions League preliminary round as Hearts of Oak exempted but face either AS Douanes or AS Bamako in Confederation Cup

With Hearts of Oak been exempted from the prelims of the CAF Confederation Cup in the latest CAF draw, their rivals Asante Kotoko will take on Burkina Faso side Rail Club de Kadiogo in September.

Asante Kotoko will play against Burkina Faso outfit RC Kadiogo in the Preliminary stage of the African Champions League.

The African Champions League draw held at Cairo on Tuesday 9th August pairs the Ghana Premier League champions and the Burkina Faso champions in the prelims of the 2022-2023 competition.

Hearts of Oak will face either AS Douanes or AS Bamako in the second Preliminary round of the African Confederation Cup. The Senegalese side and Malian giants meet in the first Prelims where the winner will play against former Ghana Premier League champions Hearts of Oak. Hearts will first play away against whoever the opponents will be in October before hosting a week later.

Asante Kotoko won the Ghanaian top flight league last season off MTN FA Cup champions Hearts of Oak. As a major club priority ahead of the new season, the Reds play away first in the Champions League in Burkina early next month.

RC Kadiogo lifted the Burkina Premier League last season after beating defending champions SONABEL to the ultimate. This will be the first time the two sides meet since the introduction of the African Champions League.

The first leg will take place between 9-11 of September and return leg set for 16-18 September.

The winner between Kotoko and RC Kadiogo will play against winner between Botswana side Gaborone United and As Vita Club in the first round of the CAF Champions League.
