Kaizer Chief beat Orlando Pirates 3-2 to end 5-year winless run against Pirates in ABSA Premiership

South African power house Kaizer Chiefs have beaten rivals Orlando Pirates in the South Africa Premier League to end their 5 year winless run against today’s opponents.

Matches between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in the S.A Premier league has always not been easy for Chief as before today’s clash, had gone five years without recording a victory against Pirates. Chiefs last won against the Buccaneers in 2014.

Coming into the game, a win for Chiefs would not only end their 5-year winless run against Pirates but it would also see them go eight consecutive-game victories in all competition.

Chiefs boss, Ernst Middendorp give starts to Akpeyi, Tower, Cardoso, Maluleka, Manyama, Billiat, Castro and Nurkovic, whiles on the side of Pirates, Sandilands, Makaringe, Mako, Pule and Lorch were called into action against Chiefs.

Chiefs took the lead under one minute after Ntsikelelo Nyauza scored an own goal before Leonardo Castro’s 28’ minute strike ensure Middendorp’s side were 2-0 up inside the first 30 minutes.

Pirates warmed themselves into the game and began to produce somehow a shocking come-back as Maleile Vincent Pule and Gabadinho Mhango stroke on the 39’ and 60’ minutes respectively to get Pirates a deserving leveler.

As 2-2 looked the likeliest results, Kaizer Chiefs stole victory from their opponents after Daniel Cardoso converted a penalty to send the game 3-2 when it was just 6’ minutes to full time.

Chiefs have extent their lead of the log to 28 points, ten more above second place Mamelodi Sundowns who have two games in hand.
